Emergency Medical Science Program Overview

大学 of The Albemarle’s (COA) Emergency Medical Science curriculum provides you with the knowledge, skills and attributes to provide advanced emergency medical care as a paramedic for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system and prepares graduates to enter the workforce.

Need first responder, rescue squad or EMS training? Learn about COA’s EMR, EMT, AEMT and paramedic noncredit courses.

You’ll gain complex knowledge, 能力, and experience while employing evidence based practice under medical oversight, and serve as a link from the scene into the healthcare system.

Graduates of the Emergency Medical Science program may be eligible to take state and/or national certification examinations.

Paramedic Program Outcomes

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, you’ll:

1. 应用 the basic concepts of pathophysiology, 发展, and pharmacology to the assessment and management of a wide variety of emergency patients
2. Demonstrate proficiency in administration of medications and safely accessing venous circulation
3. Establish and/or maintain a patent airway, oxygenate and ventilate any patient
4. Demonstrate technical proficiency in all skills necessary to fulfill the role of entry-level paramedic in the state of North Carolina
5. Demonstrate proficiency in the role of entry-level paramedic in the state of North Carolina

Some Health Sciences and Wellness programs may have additional requirements related to required grade-point averages, grades and other progression policies required for graduation. Please see program handbooks for more information.
